Located in Central Queens, the Jamaica YMCA offer state-of-the-art exercise equipment, a pool, programs for kids and families, and a community committed to helping you reach your goals. Previous Next Our Spaces HistoryThe Jamaica YMCA is rich in history and culture. In 1927 prior to being housed in its current building, the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica on 164th Street was its first home. Formerly known as the Central Queens YMCA, the Jamaica YMCA moved to its permanent home on Parsons Boulevard in 1928. The African American population of Queens had grown to more than 10,000 people, many of whom were settling in Jamaica, and this YMCA welcomed them as members. The facility for the past 90+ years has evolved with the community. Originally used as a center for boys, its expansive maze of rooms have been converted to meet the needs of the changing community, by providing members and non-members alike with vital programs and services to the Southeast Queens neighborhoods of South Ozone Park, Springfield Gardens, Richmond Hill, Briarwood, St. Albans, Queens Village, Jamaica Estate, and Jamaica. Through its full-service Branch operation and four afterschool program sites, the Jamaica YMCA helps more than 10,000 kids and 8,000 adults each year develop to their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body, in an environment steeped in our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
